Coaching is a process of inquiry and experience that newly connects you with your dreams or goals, and identifies achievable, actionable steps to make them come true. It is a journey forward in which you develop new practices, shift perspectives and experience transformation, support all the way by the skills and compassion of a coach.
Is coaching like therapy?
Coaches get asked this a lot and although there is overlap between coaching and therapy, they are very distinct practices. Emotional moments might happen in both, but coaching focuses on what is here now and what is ahead of you. It is not oriented to the past, but towards the future.
What drew me to study with The Coaches Training Institute was its compelling focus on how to achieve balance between being and doing. We so easily find ourselves driven by what we have to do that we often lose touch with our being, which holds our deepest truths. Instead we add it to the long list of “shoulds” (I should be more present, I should meditate, I should relax, I should slow down, I should breathe). Once you reconnect with your core values and learn to consciously act from them, everything changes. Your life takes on a potent sense of aliveness and wholeness.
What to expect
As we work together, we begin to identify and clarify your values, explore your life purpose, set both achievable and outrageous goals (if you reach for the moon, you’re likely to stretch further than you thought you could!), and chart paths to help you accomplish your goals while living from your values. I offer you a backbone to keep you accountable as you progress along that path. Coaching isn’t strictly about goals – it is also about shifting your perspective, overcoming obstacles, coming to terms with issues, becoming more whole and finding joy and meaning in your life.
How we work together
Coaching works when it is understood as a relationship that empowers us both – each of us free to ask for what we need within it. Typically, my coaching is one-to-one and conducted over the phone. Sessions are generally 45 minutes unless we decide on a different format. You will call me at 416-203-0808, unless we’ve made other arrangements. If you’d prefer to meet in person, I am happy to do so at my office at Pape and Danforth in Toronto.
