Hot Flash

I come to in the night just before the hot flash begins.

It’s as if I’ve been nudged awake to witness something awesome.  I fling the covers to the side and welcome the silvery cool of the night air.

Then the heat rises from my deepest core, it boils and grows and radiates through all parts of me: torso, legs, arms, neck, head. The fiery heat flushes through every part of me, every cell.

And then, as quickly as it began, it passes. The heat ebbs and I’m left marveling at the molten furnace ignited within.

Cooling down, I reach for the sheet to cover myself again, roll over and drift back to sleep.

Until the next one.
